Six Month Blogiversary GIVEAWAY!!

Wahey it's that time again! Giveaway time :) It has been 6 months since I started out reviewing books and I have loved every day of it. All this excitement is making me feel generous and I want to share the love. So I will be giving away a prize on 26th September.

The Prize: The winner gets to choose a book from Book Depository. (There will be a 15-20dollar/euro limit since I am a poor student!)

AND since I am nearing 200 wonderful followers I will be giving away a second prize to celebrate that too. Same deal there; the winner gets to choose a book from the Book Depository.

I'm Back!! August recap, September plans and Giveaways!

So August has finally come to a close. I am both sad and relived about it. I have had a hectic but deadly month. Yesterday I returned from the most awesome 3 day music festival and will be spending the next few days on the sofa recovering from it all. I will be doing my very best to catch up on reading and review requests during this week. I have ashamed and horrified to admit that I am STILL reading The Wild Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. I think I am heading into my 4th week?! It has never taken me this long to read anything but I have just been so busy this month. The good news is, I'm nearing the end soon.

Well let me start by saying how much I love True Blood! I haven't read the books but the TV show is deadly.  Does anyone think the books are better? Should I start reading them?

I think I'd like to see wizards come out of the closet. Share a bit of Hogwarts with us muggles, please. Or I'd like to see wizards like Magnus Bane from Cassandra Clare's series. Love him!!

Fast Forward Monday and my unexplained absence!

Well let me started by explaining my lack of reading and blogging last week. I have been travelling around various parts of Ireland all week with my friends. I took a break from everything that didn't involve eating and drinking. But I'm back to reality for a while. 


So this week I plan on

• FINALLY finishing The Wild Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. I have been carrying it around in my handbag all week but haven't read a word of it. 
• I will be going through all the emails I have received while I was away and will reply to my review requests.
• I will also be reading and reviewing a short story I received a couple of days ago.
• And this weekend I will be off again, camping on a beach with my friends! Lets pray it doesn't rain.

Review: I Loved You First by Reena Jacobs

My best friend was more than just a best friend to me. Three words summed it up: I heart him. I’d never tell him though. I wasn’t stupid. Besides, what he’d told no one, but me, was a little something I wished I could forget… or ignore. He was gay. I guess gay wouldn’t be bad if I wasn’t so in love with him. Now it was just cruel. 

Stereotypes run amok in this college love story: Parties, alcohol, hookups, and breakups. Alexandria Carmichael may find it a bit much as she deals with the unreturned love from the boy who completes her. When all is revealed, not only does she risk losing her best friend forever, but also herself. Without her childhood companion for support, Alexandria takes a journey of self-discovery but fears what she’ll find at the end.

I Loved You First is a novella length love story that had me hooked from  the very first page. Alex, a college freshman, has fallen in love with her best friend Seth. It seems like a pretty straight forward romance but for the fact that Seth is gay. Alex is the only person that knows the truth but this doesn’t change her feelings for him. Alex is forced to stand by and watch Seth as he dates a string of girls, while her heart silently breaks.

Reena Jacobs is a wonderful writer. Her characters and the situations are very real and easy to identify with. My own heart was breaking for Alex, who was in love with someone who can’t love her back in the same way. And poor Seth! I loved this guy, although there were times when I thought he was a bit inconsiderate and insensitive towards Alex. But at the same time, he has so much on his plate. I was really moved by his situation. I read this book in a few hours, it was hard to put down. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but there are some excellent scenes and an awesome bitch slap.

The background characters kept things interesting. Dink, although I don’t like his name, I did like the guy! Bruce, Seth’s love interest and all round bad guy in my books and Trinity, a breath of fresh air, who provides Alex with the strength and encouragement she badly needs.

Overall I really enjoyed this one and am giving it 4 out of 5 Stars.

I recently read a book called Douchebag Roulette by Marie Simas. I instantly loved this title and the book was pretty good too. You can read my review here.

I went a head and Googled 'crazy book titles' and found this gem! Haha :) Surely they could have said Cooking with Winnie the Pooh??

These weeks question is: How have your reading habits changed since you were a teen? Or if you are still a teen, what new genres are you in love with currently?

Funnily enough I used to read crime and mystery when I was younger. I read every single Nancy Drew book available to me. I couldn't get enough of them. But now I never touch those kind of books. Although this is something I plan on changing very soon! When I was in secondary school (high school) I read any romance book that my mum deemed unsuitable for me ;)
